History

Mission and Values.

Our mission is to see students come to know Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord and to build Christian character in those who already know Him. In partnership with parents and the local church, we immerse our students in a rigorous, Christ-centered education devoted to spiritual growth and academic excellence, and equip them to impact the world for Him.

The Bible is clear that families are the primary educators of children. We are told to train up a child in the way he or she should go (Proverbs 22:6) and to teach them of the Lord when they rise up, when they lie down, indeed at all times in their lives (Deuteronomy 6:4-9). First Baptist Church of Laurel has dedicated its ministries in support of families as they strive to reach this goal.
All formal educational systems exist based upon a view of the future. At First Baptist School, we view the future of each student in two ways: temporal and eternal. All children are held to high academic standards of excellence to prepare them to reach adulthood with social, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual competence in order to make an impact on their culture for Christ. In our curriculum we promote a God-centered view of the world, rather than a human-centered belief about how the world functions.
God looks beyond the here and now and into eternity. As sinful beings, we are in need of salvation, which God has so graciously offered through the death and resurrection of His son, Jesus Christ. A higher calling of this school is to prepare our students for their eternal future, to show them what Jesus meant when He said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6) To accomplish this goal, First Baptist School has a strong and effective, Biblically based curriculum, designed to assist teachers in enabling each student to know and accept Christ as Savior and to love and serve Him.
Everything we do at this school is designed to help each child accomplish the goal of growing in knowledge and growing in grace. Every teacher is committed to this and every lesson is centered on this. This is our call, our purpose.
