Elementary School Homework
Homework is an important part of our educational program. It reviews and provides practice for mastery of concepts taught in class. In addition, it instills responsibility and accountability in children, two characteristics essential for Christian growth and development.
Each teacher has specific routines for assigning, recording, and collecting homework in his or her classroom. All teachers follow these guidelines when assigning homework:
- Homework will be assigned on Monday through Thursday evenings.
- Homework is due on the date given by the teacher, usually the following day. Late or missing homework may have to be made up during a student’s recess at the teacher’s discretion.
- Homework assignments will be clearly communicated with students and families. Students in Kindergarten through second grade will be given a copy of the assignments from their teachers. Students in third through fifth grades will be responsible for recording the assignments themselves in a planner provided by the school following the procedures that their teachers have established.
- In the event of absence, students will be given an opportunity to complete missing homework assignments as indicated in the absence policy stated in this handbook
